Giving Your Opinion
When the study starts, pieces of articles will appear that you can share your feelings about. These are available for only a short time, until the next piece of that article is uploaded, so make sure you check back so you don't miss one.
New pieces are uploaded daily at 9:00, 12:00, 15:00 and 18:00.
1. Click on a piece on the home page
2. Read the text while the waiting animation plays
We can all have knee-jerk reactions to things so we've added this time for reflection. Use this pause to consider how you feel about the topic it discusses.
3. Share your opinion and click Enter when you are ready
You can't edit what you enter later, so make sure you are happy with it.
Reading The Results
Once all the pieces of a topic have been released, the whole article will be published to Pieces, showing what people are saying. Click on the article in the Your Archived Pieces section on the home page to read it.
These will usually show at the end of each day, but we also have one topic running across all four days.
Articles contain actual quotes to represent what people think. We first group lots of opinions together and then select a few quotes to represent those groups. Check to see if you have been included by clicking on the expandable sections in each article:
Notifications
You will get emails during the study when a new piece is available for you to respond to.
It's important you get these because pieces are only available for a short time.
If emails are going into your spam folder, please make sure j.hutchinson4@newcastle.ac.uk is added to your safe senders list.
Taking Part in the Study
Make sure to give your opinion on all the pieces of information you can. This is vital before you can complete the interview after the 4-day study to get the £50 voucher as thanks for your time.
Once you've completed the 4-day study, we will have the online interview at the time we arrange together.
All the results from this interview will be anonymised before analysis. Please see the study description for more information. You should have completed and returned a permission form before taking part. If you haven't, please email me.
